Carpal Tunnel Syndrome

Carpal tunnel syndrome is the most common cause of altered sensation in the hand. It typically causes numbness and pins and needles in the fingers. Symptoms are often worse at night or first thing in the morning, and can sometimes occur when driving, holding a mobile phone or at rest. Difficulty with fine activities like fastening buttons and shoelaces is common, and some report pain.

Carpal tunnel syndrome can occur at any age during adulthood but is more common in women than men.

There are other causes of finger numbness and a thorough assessment will help to identify the cause.
