    Education & Training

    Matthew maintains a strong interest in surgical education, including the training of current and future surgeons. He regularly teaches on UK and international courses, including in Strasbourg, Dubai and Hong Kong.

    Matthew is a tutor for the University of Edinburgh’s Masters (ChM) in Trauma & Orthopaedics. Currently, Matthew is on the Council of the International Wrist Arthroscopy Society (IWAS) and the organising committee of the BSSH Instructional Course in Hand Surgery.

    During his orthopaedic residency, Matthew was the President of the Royal Society of Medicine’s Trainee Section in London and a Council member of the Royal College of Surgeons of England as the President of the British Orthopaedic Trainees’ Association (BOTA).

    Matthew is a tutor for the British Diploma in Hand Surgery of the British Society for Surgery of the Hand and the University of Manchester.

    Examination Book Chapters

    Matthew wrote the hand and wrist surgery' chapters for the 1st (2020) and 2nd (2024) editions of the Postgraduate Orthopaedics exam preparation guide for prospective candidates taking Part 1 of the British and International FRCS (Tr & Orth) examination (Cambridge University Press).

    Part 1 is the written or multiple-choice question examination (single best answer questions).

    Matthew also wrote each book's Candidate Guidance chapter for the written examination.
